More detailed information on the data can be found in the README. Please note that, as the study was conducted in Germany, the training and all experimental materials for participants are provided in German. For adapted replications, we recommend using software specifically optimized for automated emotion coding during social interactions. FaceReader 9.1 yielded very low emotion scores in our study, possibly because this version was primarily designed for responses to standardized stimuli; more recent versions provide enhanced functionality for analyzing interactive settings. The low emotion intensity may also indicate that the agenda items were not sufficiently evocative. Replications could therefore consider using more emotionally intense scenarios.

Abstract of the dataset
dc.description.abstract

This archive contains experimental materials for a scenario-based team experiment evaluating an authenticity-based online training for leaders and employees in the context of healthcare. The corresponding study addresses employee silence as an emotionally embedded phenomenon linked to emotional exhaustion and impaired psychological well-being. Building on research on authenticity, emotional resources, leadership, and team processes, the experiment uses a control group design to examine whether the “Working Authentically” training can strengthen authenticity-related resources and reduce silence and emotional strain in emotionally challenging team interactions. The material package documents the standardized implementation of a pre-post experimental paradigm with clustered team data, simulated team meetings and role-specific instructions, and both self-report and observational assessment opportunities. It includes materials used to prepare, conduct, and standardize the experimental sessions, such as the experimental procedure SOP, role-specific instructions for leaders, employees, and confederates, meeting materials for the T0 and T1 assessments, participant communication templates, and training files and worksheets for the intervention group provided in separate leader and employee versions.

Employee silence, particularly acquiescent and quiescent silence, is linked to emotional exhaustion and impaired psychological well-being. Prior research highlights the role of authenticity in mitigating silence-related outcomes. This study evaluates a new online training designed to foster authenticity in work teams. Tailored versions exist for leaders and employees. The training is expected to reduce silence and emotional strain. Twelve pseudo-teams per condition (intervention group/active control group), each consisting of five “employees” and one “leader”, participate in the study. The intervention group will work in the laboratory on three occasions to complete the training "Working Authentically," while the active control group will participate in a training of equal duration focusing on breaks and recovery in the workplace context. As part of both the pre- and post-assessment, all teams engage in a simulated meeting, designed to assess behavioral indicators such as emotional expression and silence under emotionally challenging conditions. Using a pre-post longitudinal design with clustered data, the study combines self-report and observed data (expressed emotions). It aims to test training effects within a multilevel randomized controlled trial framework in a simulated work context.
